Andy Farrell will be sweating over the availability of another Ireland star ahead of Thursday’s British & Irish Lions squad announcement for the upcoming tour Down Under.

Head coach Farrell is set to reveal his final squad at London’s O2 Arena. The Lions series in Australia features three Tests against the Wallabies in Brisbane (19 July), Melbourne (26 July) and Sydney (2 August).

Mack Hansen has joined a growing list of concerns after Connacht confirmed the Australian-born winger will be sidelined for five weeks with an ankle injury, ruling him out for the rest of the Irish club’s season.

Hansen’s setback follows Leinster star Caelan Doris picking up a knock against Northampton Saints last week, further complicating Farrell’s selection puzzle.

There’s also question marks over Scotland’s Duhan van der Merwe’s fitness, with the South African speedster also sidelined with an ankle issue.

England flyer Tommy Freeman has surged into contention after his Investec Champions Cup semi-finals hat-trick for the Saints.
