Wandisile Simelane’s rise in Stormers colours is set to continue, with the electric backline weapon committing his immediate future to Cape Town.

The versatile midfielder – equally comfortable in the centres or at fullback – has extended his contract until 2028.

Simelane has gone from new recruit to key contributor since arriving ahead of the 2024 season, and the Stormers are backing him to keep climbing.

Simelane’s pace, footwork and ability to turn half-chances into linebreaks have made him a constant threat, but it is his growth away from the highlight reel that has impressed most inside the camp.

LAKER: Stormers to tighten midfield defence

Director of rugby John Dobson says Simelane’s development has exceeded expectations.

“Wandi’s growth since joining us has been phenomenal. He is a naturally gifted athlete and footballer, but what has impressed us the most is the way he has applied himself to improve all areas of his game.

“He is surrounded by talented players in our backline and has made some telling contributions within our environment both on the field and in our preparations. We are looking forward to seeing where he can go from here.”

For Simelane, the extension is about opportunity, trust and pushing standards higher.

“There are plenty of top players in this squad and the overall environment has challenged me while also allowing me to express myself,” he said.

“I’ve got no doubt that this is the best place for me and I just want to do everything I can to help the club succeed.”
