All Blacks loose forward Wallace Sititi says facing the Springboks remains one of rugby’s toughest challenges.

The 22-year-old was fired up on Tuesday for the chance to take on the reigning Rugby Championship and World Cup champions at Eden Park this Saturday.

“The Springboks are a quality side – defending champions for a reason,” Sititi told media in Auckland. “They’ve been at the top of their game for a long time now and it’s a huge opportunity for us.”

For Sititi, a clash with the Boks is also the realisation of a childhood dream.

“It’s special. Hopefully I get the chance for this weekend. Growing up, I always watched the Springboks play. I used to watch Manu Samoa with my father [former Samoa and Hurricanes loose forward Semo] playing the Springboks and it’s always a special occasion. So going up against a quality side like the Springboks is always a pleasure and a great challenge.”

Sititi already knows what to expect, having faced the Boks in Cape Town during last year’s Rugby Championship.

“They’re big boys. Love the confrontation. Love the set piece. They’re a quality side for a reason and if we’re not on our game, we’re not going to put in a good fight. So one thing I learned is you got to make sure you win all the moments and that little mistakes will cost you.”

Saturday’s clash carries added weight as the All Blacks aim to preserve their 50-match unbeaten run at Eden Park.

“For myself, it’s very important,” said Sititi. “Eden Park has been a home for All Blacks and New Zealand rugby so it’s something we take seriously. We’ve still got a few more days this week to build up to that occasion this weekend.”
