Eben Etzebeth put on a Santa suit to surprise a group of foster children on Christmas morning.

The Sharks and Springbok lock made a low-key visit to a beach near Langebaan on the West Coast, where he and his family surprised 10 foster children from the For the Children Langebaan safehouse.

The visit followed a light-hearted social media post from the organisation after some of the children spotted Etzebeth and his family on the beach earlier that day.

According to safehouse coordinators Vanessa and Jean du Plessis, Etzebeth’s brother Ryan reached out shortly afterwards to arrange the festive surprise.

The towering Bok arrived dressed as Santa Claus and spent around half an hour with the children, handing out gift bags, posing for photos and sharing plenty of hugs.

“He has a wonderful heart,” Jean du Plessis told Caxton Network Sport. “He was incredible with the kids and made the effort to really engage with each one.”

Vanessa added that the Etzebeth family’s gesture meant a great deal to the organisation.

“To give up time on Christmas Day like that is incredibly special. It’s something the children will remember for a long time.”
