SA Rugby and the country’s four URC franchises have yet to agree on player compensation for the Springboks’ Test against Wales in Cardiff on 29 November.
According to Rapport, SA Rugby has offered R250,000 per player for the fixture, but the franchises are pushing back, arguing that the proposed fee is insufficient.
Talks reportedly began with the franchises requesting around R500,000 per player, citing the fact that the Wales Test falls outside World Rugby’s international window. That means they will be without key players for crucial URC matches on the same weekend.
The Bulls and Lions meet at Loftus on 29 November, with the Stormers and Sharks in Ireland for matches against Munster and Connacht respectively.

“It is very important for the franchises who the Boks want to use against Wales, because it has the biggest impact on their planning,” a source told Rapport.
While negotiations continue, Rapport claims none of the teams are currently planning to withhold their players from Test selection.
