Munster are set to welcome back some South African speed and muscle as they prepare for Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash against the Stormers at Thomond Park.
Winger Thaakir Abrahams and lock Jean Kleyn are expected back for the much-anticipated Vodacom URC showdown, as are four Irish internationals who were all spotted at the team’s training on Monday. Tadhg Beirne, Jack Crowley, Craig Casey and Tom Farrell all featured in Saturday’s 24-13 loss to the Springboks in Dublin.
Assistant coach Alex Codling said on Monday that a call on the Ireland contingent will come closer to the weekend.
“They’ve come off the back of a tough series, physically, and none more so than the game on Saturday … The boys are glad to have them back, as we coaches are,” Codling said.
MATTHEE: Stormers ready for Thomond Park fire
Former Sharks flyer Abrahams has been a revelation for Munster since joining the club, and is one of seven players back from injury and available for selection as the URC resumes, while Kleyn looks set to form an all-international second row combination with Beirne.
Both Munster and the Stormers are unbeaten in this season’s URC so far, having registered five wins out of five. The Cape side are ahead on points difference.
