Sharks-bound tighthead prop Nemo Roelofse says a decade in France has helped shape him into a better all-round player.
Roelofse, currently playing for Perpignan, will link up with the Sharks next season.
“I developed a lot in France, I learned how to be better in the scrums and to play better rugby in general,” Roelofse told Netwerk24.
“I’m really looking forward to returning to South Africa so that my family and friends have the opportunity to see me play. Rugby is my passion, but in France my family – they can’t see me play.”
The 30-year-old, who was schooled at Hoër Landbouskool Oakdale in Riversdale, left South Africa as a young prop after representing the SWD Eagles in the Currie Cup First Division and the Madibaz in the Varsity Cup.

“In 2016, a prop at Albi in the south of France got injured. My CV was sent there and they then let me come for a week to test me,” Roelofse explained. “After the week, they decided I was staying there and I finished the season with them.”

That opportunity opened the door to a long stay in France, with stints at Nevers and Stade Français before he settled at Perpignan three seasons ago.
