Stellenbosch University has confirmed that disciplinary action has been taken against Maties head coach Kabamba Floors after an incident at a local pub last month.

According to Netwerk24, players from Hamiltons allegedly clashed with Floors at the Brauhaus in Stellenbosch on 2 August, shortly after the clubs faced each other in a Western Province Super League A fixture.

It was claimed that the former Springbok flank attempted to throw a glass at one of the Hamiltons players following a heated exchange.

SU confirmed to Netwerk24 that it had acted against Floors.

“SU can confirm that, in line with its commitment to accountability and good governance, the university followed appropriate processes and applied appropriate sanctions in relation to the incident involving the Hamiltons club,” the university said in a statement.

While SU would not disclose the punishment, Netwerk24 reports that Floors received a “final written warning”.

Floors himself declined to comment, telling the publication via WhatsApp that he had “nothing” to say and requested not to be contacted further.

Maties had a poor Super League A campaign, finishing 11th with just five wins from 14 matches.
