One of Sharks coach JP Pietersen’s key lieutenants has been appointed to the USA Eagles’ coaching team.

According to Rapport, Sharks attack coach Dave Williams has been given permission by the Sharks to take on a consulting role that will run through to the 2027 World Cup.

The experienced Williams is a long-standing member of the Sharks coaching set-up and a key member of Pietersen’s backroom staff.

“It’s a consulting job, not a full-time position. It’s good for his development,” a well-placed Durban source confirmed, adding that Williams formally sought and received approval from the Sharks.

The 47-year-old has been with the Sharks since 2019 and also served under former head coach John Plumtree.

Pietersen took over as interim head coach in December and is expected to be confirmed in the role on a full-time basis soon, with the Sharks currently reviewing their senior coaching structure.

Williams’ CV includes stints with the Kobe Steelers in Japan, English clubs London Irish and Bath. He was also the Southern Kings attack coach during the 2016 Super Rugby season and later fulfilled a similar role at the Cheetahs during their Pro14 campaign.
