A South African playmaker is reportedly being targeted by a French Top 14 club.
According to RugbyPass, Racing 92 regard Rob du Preez as an ideal replacement for England’s Owen Farrell, who has returned to Saracens.
The French giants are looking to rebuild after finishing 10th in the Top 14.
Du Preez, who won his only Springbok cap off the bench against Wales in Washington DC in 2017, has been a model of consistency for Sale. He holds the English Premiership record for 74 consecutive starts and logged 1,520 minutes this season – the third-most in the league.
The 31-year-old is still under contract with Sale until the end of next season, but Racing, flush with cash after the departures of Farrell and Springbok captain Siya Kolisi to the Sharks, are unlikely to balk at a buyout fee.

If the move materialises, Du Preez would be the second of the three brothers to leave Sale this year after Jean-Luc’s switch to Bordeaux-Bègles. That would leave only Dan at the club, although he has also been linked with a possible move to France.
Racing’s initial target, James O’Connor, opted for Leicester Tigers instead.
