Cheetahs coach Frans Steyn was impressed by Zander du Plessis’ performance against Black Lion on Sunday.
The 25-year-old, who recently joined the Cheetahs from the Lions, looks to have nailed down the No 12 jersey following standout showings against the Georgians.
Du Plessis came off the bench during the 39-38 defeat in the first match, then started in the 24-5 win in Bloemfontein.

Du Plessis has the versatility to slot in at flyhalf or fullback, but Steyn sees him as a physical presence at inside centre.
“For me, I just want someone who’s solid in the midfield,” Steyn said. “I want a player who carries hard, tackles hard and makes his presence felt.
“Zander hasn’t played rugby in quite some time – this was his first full match in a while. But he was very solid, and that makes the job easier for everyone around him.”
Meanwhile, OFM reports that young Shimlas hooker Vice Hofmeyr has joined the Cheetahs as a replacement for Vernon Paulo, who is heading to the Stormers.
The Cheetahs will face the Lions in a warm-up match at Ellis Park on 20 November, before kicking off their EPCR Challenge Cup campaign against the Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park on 7 December.
