Cheetahs utility back Banie Britz has returned to full-contact training after a freak hand injury sidelined him for six weeks.

Netwerk24 reports that the 22-year-old earned his nickname after breaking a knuckle on his right hand during a charity boxing bout in October.

Britz stepped into the ring against radio presenter Shandor Potgieter as part of a fundraiser hosted by Hoërskool President Steyn, but felt immediately afterwards that something was wrong.

“It was just a once-off thing,” Britz said of the boxing bout.

Flyhalf Franco Smith is also back on the field after missing the Cheetahs’ EPCR Challenge Cup defeats against the Exeter Chiefs and Stade Français in December due to a concussion.

Fyhalf Jaco van der Walt (hamstring) and centre Zander du Plessis (groin) are also set to rejoin the squad after missing the Stade Français clash.
