How things stand in Pool 4 of the Investec Champions Cup with two rounds remaining.

The top four in each six-team pool progress to the last 16 of Europe’s premier club competition, with the fifth-placed team dropping down to the EPCR Challenge Cup.

Pool 4 does not make pretty reading if you are a Bulls fan, but there is hope.

The Northampton Saints and Bordeaux Bègles top the pool on 10 points, closely followed by the Bristol Bears on nine. The winless Bulls and Scarlets sit on one point each, with Pau pointless.

It is what makes Saturday’s visit of Bristol to Loftus so critical to the Bulls’ Champions Cup ambitions. The Bulls need a positive result against the in-form Bristol. Their main rivals for the fourth and final playoff spot – the Scarlets and Pau – meet in Llanelli.

The good news for the Bulls is that the Bordeaux and Northampton games are both out of the way, but after Bristol they face Pau – who are second on the Top 14 log – in France.

The 55-5 defeat to the Saints also means the Pretoria-based side has the worst points difference (-58) of all six teams in Pool 4.
