Paarl Boys’ High claimed South Africa’s unofficial No 1 schools ranking with a dramatic victory over Paarl Gimnasium at Faure Stadium on Saturday.

Boishaai trailed 33-21 with seven minutes remaining before scoring two late tries for a 35-33 victory – their first over their arch-rivals since 2022.

Centre Tristan Joubert went over for the match-winning try in the 66th minute, which was cooly converted by centre Iwan Jordaan.

SA Schools centre Markus Muller was outstanding for previously unbeaten Gimmies, scoring a try and adding three conversions and four penalties.
