A New Zealander has agreed a three-year deal to join Top 14 club Clermont from the Blues starting next July.

Centre AJ Lam has played 58 Super Rugby matches, a competition he won in 2024 alongside flyhalf Harry Plummer, who has been playing for the French club this season.

“This is excellent news for the club,,” said Clermont head coach Christophe Urios. “He’s exactly the profile we were looking for: a player capable of winning collisions, making ground and breaking through defences, but also possessing very good hands to generate speed with the ball.”

The 27-year-old Lam is Clermont’s first official signing for the 2026-27 season.

He is the nephew of Bristol Bears head coach Pat Lam and his brother Ben Lam spent four seasons in the Top 14, playing for Bordeaux Begles and Montpellier before switching to rugby league and the Catalans Dragons in 2024.
