Bulls coach Johann Ackermann has confirmed that no new video evidence was presented during Jan-Hendrik Wessels’ disciplinary hearing.

The Springbok front-rower received a nine-match ban for allegedly grabbing Connacht flank Josh Murphy’s genitals during the Bulls’ 28-27 win in Galway.

The incident occurred in the 18th minute of the match.

Murphy complained to referee Mike Adamson, but there was no conclusive video evidence for the match officials. As a result, Wessels remained on the field with Murphy red-carded for retaliation.

“There was no other footage that I was aware of that brought a different view,” Ackermann said on Saturday.

“The facts in the hearing were the facts they made the decision on. I’m not going to say too much because the appeal is in, so now we are just waiting for a date.”

If the ban stands, Wessels will miss the Springboks’ five-match November tour, as well as the Bulls’ Champions Cup clash with Bordeaux Begles and URC derbies against the Lions and Sharks.
