The Lions have tied down a promising forward prospect until 2029.
Tighthead prop RF Schoeman has signed a new deal having continued his steady rise in Johannesburg after being named the Lions’ Junior Player of the Year and Breakthrough Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season.
The powerful 22-year-old has featured prominently during the 2025-26 campaign, making 12 appearances across the Vodacom URC and EPCR Challenge Cup.

Since stepping up from the academy into the senior setup in 2024, he has established himself as a reliable option in the front row and an increasingly important member of Ivan van Rooyen’s squad.
Operating alongside established names such as Springbok prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Schoeman has shown consistent growth. He is recognised for his power at scrum time, high work rate around the field and ball-carrying presence.

The prop’s extension follows similar commitments from several key figures within the squad, with Ntlabakanye, Quan Horn, Ruan Venter and Morne van den Berg also recently committing their futures to the Joburg-based club.
