Harlequins coach Jason Gilmore believes his side’s demolition of the Stormers could prove to be a turning point after a bruising run of results.

Quins ran in nine tries in a ruthless 61-10 victory at the Twickenham Stoop on Sunday, producing a performance that stood in stark contrast to the heavy English Premiership defeats that had preceded it.

“Hopefully this result will be a catalyst for us, as it’s a pleasing result after a difficult few weeks,” said Gilmore, whose side had been under mounting pressure coming into the Investec Champions Cup clash.

The English outfit showed a sharpness and cohesion that had been missing in recent outings, overwhelming the Stormers with pace, precision and intensity on both sides of the ball.

“We’ve changed the training a bit to try and get some more rhythm into our attack, and we saw the benefit today,” Gilmore explained. “In addition, our defence was vastly improved than in recent weeks as we showed real fight to keep our line intact.”

While Quins impressed across the park, loose forward Jack Kenningham once again stood out, leading the charge with a tireless display.

“I thought Kenners [Kenningham] was outstanding,” Gilmore added. “He has the ambition to put on an England shirt and it’s difficult when your side is not performing, but he has been at the heart of everything for us this season.”
