A Stormers forward faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a neck injury.

Netwerk24 reports that Ruan Ackermann is expected to be out of action for between four and six months, ruling him out of the remainder of the season.

The flank has been de-registered for the Investec Champions Cup, with lock Alex Groves added by the Stormers in his place.

Loosehead prop Ali Vermaak has also been deregistered after suffering an ankle injury in last weekend’s Vodacom URC match against the Bulls, while centre Dan du Plessis remains out of action. Tighthead prop Corne Weilbach is another forward no longer registered for the competition.

Utility back Luke Burger, Blitzboks speedster Mfundo Ndhlovu and young loose forward Wandi Mlaba have all been registered ahead of Sunday’s clash against Harlequins in London.

Ndhlovu is expected to be named on the bench as the Stormers look to extend their winning start to the season to 11 matches.
