Griquas coach Pieter Bergh has explained the Kimberley-based union’s position on winger Dylan Maart, who has been ripping it for the Stormers while on loan.
The 29-year-old made an immediate impact in Cape Town, scoring on debut against Munster in Limerick, bagging a brace against La Rochelle in the Investec Champions Cup and crossing again in the recent Vodacom URC clash against the Lions.
Maart’s loan agreement with the Stormers runs until the end of this month and there was reportedly surprise within the Griquas camp when Stormers coach John Dobson expressed his intention to keep Maart for longer.
While uncertainty remains around the 2026 SA Cup and Currie Cup qualification process, Bergh says Griquas are willing to extend the loan agreement.
“Our relationship with the Stormers makes it possible for us to be open to negotiations to loan Dylan to them for the entire URC campaign,” Bergh told Netwerk24.
“We’re not going to make a final decision until we know what the tournament structures entail.

“We are not opposed to loaning Dylan to the Stormers for the whole URC, provided he is available for us in the Currie Cup.
“It’s solely because we have this relationship with the Stormers.”
