Amid the uncertainty in Durban, former head coach John Plumtree insists he’s still part of the Sharks setup.
Speaking to News24 after the Sharks’ defeat to Toulouse, Plumtree confirmed that he plans to continue contributing behind the scenes.
“It’s just a case of me stepping aside and allowing [interim coach] JP [Pietersen] to make his mark,” Plumtree said.
“I probably realised a few weeks ago that the best thing for the Sharks would be for me to step aside and allow JP to take over. I’m here to support him and help the Sharks grow, hopefully for the next couple of years.”

Discussions about his long-term role are ongoing.
“I don’t really know yet what my future holds,” he said. “[Sharks owner] Marco Masotti and I are in discussions and I want to stay and fill a different role at the team.”

His desire to remain with the Sharks is deeply personal.
“I love Durban, I love South Africa and South Africans. My wife is a South African and one of my sons was also born in South Africa. So I hope my future keeps me in Durban.”
