The world’s top two teams – the Springboks and All Blacks – are likely to meet at the quarter-final stage of the 2027 World Cup in Australia.

On Wednesday, New Zealand were drawn in Pool A with Australia, Chile and Hong Kong, while the Boks were placed in Pool B with Italy, Georgia and Romania.

If the Boks and All Blacks both top their pools, and win their round-of-16 matches, they will meet in the quarter-finals. The winner of that is likely to face France in the semi-finals and possibly England in the final.

Meanwhile, hosts Australia are projected to meet England in a quarter-final should the Wallabies finish second in Pool A.
