Springbok flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit has been crowned Midi Olympique’s 2025 World Player of the Year, capping yet another phenomenal season for one of South Africa’s modern greats.
The 33-year-old, who played a starring role in South Africa’s 2023 World Cup triumph, has been honoured by the French rugby newspaper for his unmatched work rate, consistency and leadership in green and gold.
Du Toit delivered the defining performance of his career in the 2023 World Cup quarter final in Paris against Les Bleus. In the World Cup final against the All Blacks, he produced 28 tackles without a single miss, powering the Springboks to a tense 12-11 victory and a record-equalling fourth Webb Ellis Cup.
Du Toit has starred for the Boks this year and was voted by SARugbymag.co.za readers as South Africa’s best player in the Rugby Championship.
He started five of the Boks’ six matches at blindside flank, playing the full 80 minutes on each occasion.
He scored two tries against Argentina in Durban and was superb again a week later at Twickenham, making eight carries and 11 tackles as the Boks secured back-to-back Rugby Championship titles for the first time.
