The SWD Eagles have confirmed Heyneke Meyer’s appointment as head coach.
The 58-year-old first made his coaching name in George before moving on to the Bulls and Springboks.
According to Rapport, UXi Sport has been lined up as an equity partner prepared to inject significant funding into the Southern Cape union.

Meyer’s coaching résumé includes leading the Bulls to 2007 Super Rugby glory, guiding the Springboks to a third-place finish at the 2015 World Cup, and overseas spells with the Leicester Tigers, Stade Français and Houston SaberCats.
“We are thrilled to welcome Heyneke Meyer back to the SWD Eagles,” said SWD president Ben Brinkhuis. “His experience, vision and passion for developing South African rugby talent make him the ideal leader to guide our team into a new era.”
This year, under former coach Zane Kirchner, SWD finished ninth on the 10-team SA Cup log with just one win from nine matches, and fifth in the Currie Cup First Division with one victory from five games.
