Enforcer Le Roux Roets has parted ways with the Sale Sharks just a year after joining the English club.

It is the latest chapter in a nomadic career marked by frequent moves and frustrating setbacks.

The 30-year-old lock, who tips the scales at 138kg, arrived in Manchester from the Durban-based Sharks at the start of last season but injuries restricted him to just four appearances.

Sale confirmed on Tuesday that his contract had been terminated “for family reasons”, with Roets’ next destination yet to be announced.

It continues a pattern of short spells for the towering second-rower, who has already turned out for the Lions, Pumas, Bulls and Sharks in South Africa, as well as Racing 92 in France and the Waratahs in Australia.

Roets’ exit comes days after Sale opened their season with a Premiership Rugby Cup win over Bristol, with the Sharks set to host Gloucester in the Premiership curtain-raiser later this month.

In a statement, Sale said: “The 30-year-old lock joined Sale from the Sharks ahead of the 2024-25 season but injuries have restricted him to just four appearances including two as a replacement in the Prem. Everyone at the club wishes Le Roux and his family all the best for the future.”
