All Blacks squad movements suggest Caleb Clarke is primed for a return against the Springboks to fill the vacancy at wing.

The Blues powerhouse has been retained in the All Blacks camp this week, while other contenders for the vacant wing slot have been released for NPC duty.

It points strongly to Clarke starting in Wellington on Saturday, with Rieko Ioane a candidate to shift across to the No 14 jersey left vacant by the injured Emoni Narawa.

Narawa was ruled out after suffering a rib injury shortly after scoring the opening try in last week’s Eden Park win over South Africa. His exit forced Will Jordan to switch to the right wing, while Damian McKenzie came off the bench to slot in at fullback.

Sevu Reece, who was dropped for Narawa in Auckland, won’t be the replacement having been named to make his Southland debut in the NPC this weekend.

Likewise, Leicester Fainga’anuku – who recently rejoined the All Blacks setup as injury cover – will turn out for Tasman in their Ranfurly Shield challenge.

That leaves Clarke, with his power running and finishing ability, as the most likely option to boost the All Blacks’ back three for the Wellington rematch.
