Weil Gotshal & Manges has canceled an upcoming Summer Experience webinar for law student recruits, according to a post on X from Paul Kim, scheduled for tonight.

The event was pitched to 1Ls as a chance to connect with the Weil team, learn more about the firm, and “explore what a career here could look like.”

Fair question! It’s just that Weil’s own lawyers have been asking it all week.

In the past few days, the firm brought in restructuring counsel and started discussing a possible wind-down, the head of its capital markets group told his associates to start looking for work elsewhere, and partners have been “frantically sending résumés” to rivals. It’s tough to pitch a 1L on a long career at Weil when the firm’s current associates have just been told to go find one somewhere else.

So it’s hard to blame the recruiting team for pulling the plug. Just imagine fielding the Q&A!
