Scotland Rugby have reportedly stepped up efforts to recruit more South African rugby talent, with a pair of highly rated age-group brothers among the union’s latest targets.

Daily Mail reports that twins Josh and James Mackenzie, who attend Kingswood College in Makhanda, have emerged as long-term prospects.

The current Scotland team includes SA-born Pierre Schoeman, Duhan van der Merwe and Kyle Steyn, while captain Sione Tuipulotu was born and raised in Australia.

Capable of playing lock or loose forward, Josh has already represented South Africa at U18 level. He and his brother James, a centre/wing, recently trained with the Glasgow Warriors during their Vodacom URC tour to South Africa.

According to the Daily Mail, it is still unclear how the Mackenzies will qualify for Scotland.

They are the latest southern hemisphere players on Scotland’s radar.

Harry Soboil, a former Western Province and Rondebosch Boys’ High prodigy, has been with Edinburgh since February and was this month part of a Scotland U19s squad.

Edinburgh recently confirmed the signings of New Zealand-born backline players Riley Higgins and Louie Chapman, who both qualify to represent Scotland.
