Day one of the North-South Rugby Tournament delivered as Paul Roos held off Monument, Paarl Boys’ dominated Jeppe and Garsfontein stunned Stellenberg.
Paul Roos weathered a second-half fightback from Monnas to secure a 21-17 win. The Stellenbosch side raced to an 18-0 half-time lead, with tries from Tiaan Basson and Caden Samuels, while Travis Pheiffer added eight points from the tee.
Monument responded after the break through Logan Langeveldt, Blessing Monareng and Tristan Rodriguez, but Pheiffer’s second-half penalty proved decisive.
