A week after being stunned by the Wallabies at Ellis Park, the world champions produced a controlled performance against the same opponents in Cape Town.

The tense 30-22 victory at a packed Cape Town Stadium saw the Springboks retain the Mandela Challenge Plate and build momentum in the Castle Rugby Championship.

Both sides scored three tries, but the difference lay in South Africa’s discipline, game management and accuracy off the tee.

Handré Pollard was central with a Man of the Match performance after contributing 15 points through three penalties and three conversions.

The encounter swung repeatedly, particularly in a nervy second half.

The Boks led 20-10 at the break but the Wallabies were right in the game until a late converted Eben Etzebeth try put daylight between the sides.
